Cyber Security

Data Security: One of the Most Important Elements of your Organization

Cybersecurity is of upmost importance because it incorporates everything that relates to protecting your proprietary and confidential data, intellectual property, protected health information, personal information, and business and governmental information systems from damage, theft, and extortion, attempted by cyber-criminals, rivals, and foreign governments.

.

Basic security measures such as antivirus software and firewalls are no longer adequate to mitigate unauthorized access to your sensitive data, as cyber threats now come from a variety of levels, sources and complex methods. Security begins with the education of you and your staff on recognizing social engineering scams such as spear-phishing, and procedures to prevent ransomware data encryption attacks intended to hijack systems and steal information.

.

In the field of Cyber-security (also known as electronic information security or information technology security), The Riggs Group IT professionals have industry recognized certifications (CompTIA Security+, CISSP, CASP+), and years of experience defending networks, internal systems, servers, computers, mobile devices, and all forms of electronic data from malicious attacks. The common categories that define the functional scopes and security target areas are:

.

Education of End-users:

The individual employees in an organization comprises a major vector for cyber-security risks.  Anyone of them could accidentally introduce malware, viruses, ransomware, trojans, etc to an otherwise secure system by failing to follow the standard security practices in place. Educating and training users to recognize and avoid suspicious email attachments, not downloading unknown programs from the internet, to never plug in unverified USB devices, and several other critical instructions, is imperative to the security apparatus your organization.
.

Operational security:

Operational security involves an analysis of the data protection procedures, monitoring potentially faulty behaviors and habits, making determinations on where and how electronic data is stored, limiting users’ network and data access permissions, as well as other approaches. These are performed in service of locating any weaknesses in systems security.
.

Disaster recovery:

Disaster recovery is a subset of business continuity (keeping essential aspects of a business functioning despite significant disruptions) & involves a set of policies, procedures, and tools to enable the recovery or continuation of vital technology systems and infrastructure, following a natural or human-induced disaster incident. Disaster recovery focuses on the IT and technology systems supporting mission critical business functions.
.

Application security:

Application security places emphasis on ensuring electronic devices and software are free of threats, as  compromised application will be a security vulnerability that can allow unauthorized access to private data. Thorough monitoring of programs, employing diagnostics, data traffic analysis, etc, are methods of policing deployed applications.
.

Network security:

Network security is the practice of preventing unauthorized access (both internal and external) to a computer network, and securing it from all forms of attacks and opportunistic malware.
.

Information security:

Information security protects the transmission, storage, and access of electronic data, typically via encryption, user access permission limits, or various other technological means.
